gift description:

Skip the ice and serve your drinks on the rocks (literally). The included soapstone cubes were designed by Andrew Hellman, a big fan of single malt scotch, who wanted to chill his spirits without diluting them. After much research, he came up with the idea of using natural soapstone to chill drinks. Due to their softness, the stones won’t scratch the glass and have the ability to retain temperature for extended periods of time. The set includes six whiskey stones and two elegant sipping glasses, designed at complementary angles. Hand-polished using a Japanese optical lens compound, the glasses’ wide mouth and short profile are ideal for small quantities of high-quality whiskey. Simply chill the stones. Add three to your drink, let stand for five minutes and enjoy.
  • soapstones milled in Perkinsville, Vermont - the oldest soapstone workshop in the USA
  • dishwasher safe
  • soapstones: approximately ¾” x 7/8” cubed
  • whiskey glasses: 2 ½” high x 2 ¾” – 3 ¼” diameter; 6oz each

Small Not as pictured August 09, 2012
"The stones do don't chill very well and do not work to keep the beverage cold. It is not as nice as pictured. The glasses do not match which I am not sure if it was described that way. The glasses are also very non descript."

Big Mistake August 03, 2012
"I bought this for my husband - who drinks scotch. The 'rocks' that are said to chill the drink do NOT work at all. This was money thrown down the drain. Big disappointment!"

They were so happy! June 30, 2012
"50th Anniversary gift for favorite Aunt & Uncle who are Scotch drinkers and they loved it. Had it shipped and they said the gift wrapping was beautiful. They've tried them and were pleased. Very happy"

Looks good but it's not functional June 25, 2012
"Unfortunately, the rocks failed to chill the whiskey. While they stayed cold in the glass (after freezing), they never made the actual liquor cool. It's really unusual. My husband had to add ice to the rocks, which is obviously defeating the purpose of the gift."

great idea- not good product June 22, 2012
"So this was a great idea for my husband for a fathers day gift and he was thrilled when he received it. That is why i am giving it two stars.. the only reason. The rocks do not keep the whiskey cool.. at all.. and the classes were just -ok-. I was expecting a better quality glass seeing as though they stated they were made by an artist etc etc. I wouldnt have wasted my money."

not the best purchase ever June 20, 2012
"A wonderful idea for the man of the house. Unfortunately the soap stones did not deliver the desired coldness of expectation, that I previously had thought. You see, I figured the soap stones would be as cold as ice! But this is simply not true. First I tried chilling the soap stones all together, in a metal container, with no lid (freezer of course). The stones were cold, but it did not cool down my desired dram. Then, I tried putting them in an ice tray, to where they had there own individual space to cool down. This also did not deliver the desired coldness to what I would prefer. Altogether, a very huge disappointment for fathers day and birthdays a like. On a different note, the handcrafted crystal glasses are something to behold! They have hints of beautiful bubble like imperfections in the crystal, which I would expect from a handcrafted item. Truly the glasses are worth the purchase, by far! You can even make them sing, as they are real crystal! But as for the soap stones...I get a bigger kick out of holding the stones than I do when they are "trying" to cool my dram."

Not much for the money May 18, 2012
"My husband often uses soapstone cubes at a freind's house...so I thought he would love these. He, unfortunately, was less than impressed. He thought his freind's were of a much better quality....over-all, not worth the money. Sorry."
